STEMRox STEAM Camp (Grades 5-12)
Program Details

Dive head first into STEAM in this interactive, hands-on summer instructional camp! Students will be exposed to the basic building blocks and principles of STEAM by exploring a new STEAM-based topic each day. We will start each session with an introduction of the day's topic, do some hands-on learning of the concepts, and finally create a project using these new skills. Students who have STEAM experience will have the opportunity to complete more advanced projects, so whether you are new to STEAM or have already a background, this camp offers something for all experience levels!
The Sessions will cover:
- 3-D Design (Monday) - Students will explore 3D Design using a program called TinkerCAD. ThinkCAD is a great program for all skill levels. It is easy to learn the basics and also has more advanced tools as well. In addition to learning how to design, students will also learn how 3D printers work and have an opportunity to print out their projects to take home using our new multicolor printer!
- Animation (Tuesday) - Students will learn about the basics of animation and bring their ideas to life. First, students will utilize Scratch to control characters usingcoding. Scratch was originally developed by MIT (https://scratch.mit.edu/) and is a great introduction to coding. Next students will be introduced to stop motion animation utilizing Google Slides. Think of this activity as a digital flip book style animation. Students can draw custom characters or use pictures of their favorite characters!
- Engineering and Mechanics (Wednesday) - Students will be thrust into the role of an Engineer and work to create innovative solutions to the problems they encounter. They will be given all the materials needed, but use their own ideas and imagination in order to build a solution they feel works best! Students will learn through building and be exposed to the Engineering Design Process.
- Electronics and Design (Thursday) - Students will be building and coding their own 3D printed RC Tank! Students will be given all materials, background knowledge, and guided instruction to complete the build and will leave with a fully functional RC Tank!
- Coding, Robots, and Drones (Friday) - Students will code to complete online challenges using Vex VR (https://vr.vex.com) as well as physical robots and drones. Students will then use these new skills to complete a variety of robotic challenges using both Sphero RVR tanks as well as CoDrones! We will end the day manually flying drones through our Drone Obstacle Course!
